Today we went to a new place for lunch because we were in a different part of town than normal. Hubby was looking for a new bicycle to purchase, and so we were going around to the lbs’.
Did you know that lbs is standard on the biking websites? It stands for local bike shop, and it made me want to hit the lys, which of course is the local yarn shop. Maybe a Saturday is not the best day to go into a lys for help.
Anyway, we went in to eat, and a gentleman sat behind us with his friend. He was a paw paw, I am SURE of it. They had messed up his order somehow, I didn’t eaves drop that well, and were giving him apple pie with ice cream because of that. This dear sweet man, and his friend, decided that they did not need apple pie, and so they gave it to my boys. We almost left early and he had to make us sit down because it was on the way.
The kids were left happy with their sweet tooth satisfied, and I was left reminiscing over grandparents. I had a paw paw that I loved dearly. I could allow my eyes to linger a fraction of a second too long on a toy and know that it would be mine before we left the store. I remember going to work one time with paw paw and playing with the little holes that punch holes make. It may have been a dream, but there ya have it. He took my brother and cousins fishing, and he allowed us to drive around in his El Camino. My cousin was driving and the rest of us were all squashed in the front seat. That may have been a dream, too.
There is something comforting in a paw paw. Not all older men fill this role. And maybe even paw paw’s can’t fill it all the time. I’m not even sure how it’s defined, but they love all children as if they were their own grandkids and they are friendly and helpful.
Hubby got a new bike, I didn’t get any yarn, the kids were spoiled by a paw paw and his friend.
It was a good day.

I really enjoyed this, Stacey. I’t made me a little weepy.
(sorry I haven’t been here much lately… ya know how I am…)
It sounds like you had a fun day! What a touching story! I may have to write about my paw paw sometime.
That’s sweet. We were in Lowe’s on Saturday morning buying supplies for our hypertufa container for the garden when I saw a Paw Paw, his son, and a little toddler grandchild all walking down the isle together. I just stopped and enjoyed the view because I don’t see that sight very often in a store. It’s very beautiful to behold!
